    Itinerary

    Day 1: Tangier ⇢ Chefchaouen

Your personal driver-guide will greet you upon your arrival at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport or the ferry terminal to launch your Moroccan adventure. From the coast, you will head inland toward Chefchaouen, the country’s iconic “Blue City.” Once you arrive, you will have plenty of time to wander through its mesmerizing, indigo-washed streets. Tucked away in a striking mountain landscape, Chefchaouen derives its name from the Berber word for “horns,” referencing the peaks framing the town. The striking contrast of stark white buildings, deep blue doors, and the lush greenery fed by the nearby Oued Laou gives this destination its enchanting allure.

    • Overnight: Chefchaouen hotel

    Day 2: Chefchaouen ⇢ Volubilis ⇢ Meknes ⇢ Fes

Leaving the Blue City behind, your grand loop continues past the sprawling fringes of the Maamora forest toward Meknes. This imperial city reached its architectural peak under the 17th-century rule of Sultan Moulay Ismail. Before reaching Fes, you will venture just outside Meknes to explore the sprawling Roman archaeological site of Volubilis, a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage treasure, alongside the nearby holy town of Moulay Idriss. After immersing yourself in these historic landmarks, you will complete the day’s drive to Fes.

    • Overnight: Fes hotel

Day 3: Expert-Guided Exploration of Historic Fes

Dedicate your morning to discovering Fes, founded in 808 as Morocco’s inaugural political, spiritual, and cultural capital. Your historical tour starts at the glittering Golden Gates of the Royal Palace, followed by a stop at a scenic overlook to view the massive defensive walls enclosing the ancient medina. Next, you will dive into the vibrant, car-free labyrinth on foot, passing bustling markets, historic mosques, madrasas, and traditional roadside inns before arriving at the world-famous leather tanneries. Following an independent lunch break, explore the vibrant artisan districts, where local craftsmen still utilize Spanish-Andalusia techniques passed down through generations. Enjoy a completely open evening to relax or explore further.

    • Overnight: Fes hotel

    Day 4: Fes ⇢ Ifrane ⇢ Azrou ⇢ Cedar Forest ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Erfoud ⇢ Merzouga

Following breakfast, the route turns south toward the towering dunes of Merzouga. Traveling through the Middle Atlas range, your first stop is Ifrane, a tidy alpine town frequently likened to a Swiss mountain village. From there, you will pass through Azrou (meaning “the rock”) and pause in the adjacent cedar forests to spot native Barbary macaques in the wild. The drive then climbs over the dramatic Tizi Talghemt (Camel Pass) at an altitude of 1,907 meters, cutting through striking, purple-hued mountain landscapes. Descending through Errachidia and the sprawling palm groves of the Tafilalet region, you will reach Erfoud before taking the desert tracks out to Erg Chebbi. Spend the evening relaxing at the base of the massive dunes as they shift colors in the evening light.

    • Overnight: Desert Kasbah hotel

Day 5: Erg Chebbi Sahara Desert Off-Road Adventure

After breakfast, embark on a rugged off-road exploration of the desert terrain, tracing sections of the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally route. The excursion also stops at a scenic oasis that served as a backdrop for Hollywood films like Sahara. Afterward, visit a unique village historically settled by descendants of the ancient trans-Saharan slave trade, where you can experience their distinct musical heritage. In the afternoon, exchange your 4×4 vehicle for a camel caravan. Ride deep into the Erg Chebbi sands to catch a brilliant desert sunset before settling into a traditional Berber tented camp. Here, you will tour the authentic local market and see its famous “donkey parking lot,” where regional nomads and desert residents still gather to trade goods. Continue on to Erfoud to view prehistoric quarries filled with fossils dating back over 380 million years. From there, the journey moves into the dramatic Todra Gorges, a towering canyon highly favored by rock climbers and hikers. Your day concludes in the scenic Dades Valley.

You will pass through the fragrant Valley of the Roses, where locals harvest blossoms to create organic waters, soaps, and cosmetics. Moving onward past Ouarzazate, you will explore the spectacular Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This UNESCO-protected clay fortress has starred in numerous cinematic epics, from Gladiator to Sahara.
